Julie’s Garden

New Gloucester, Maine / 2026 Growing Season

From Overwhelmed to Growing

When Julie purchased her new home, it came with an unexpected bonus: an established vegetable garden and raspberry bushes! She loved the idea of growing her own fresh vegetables but with no previous gardening experience, she wasn’t quite sure where to begin.

Julie connected with The Sprout House after discovering us through our spring seedling sale. What started as a simple conversation about her garden turned into a season of growing, learning and enjoying fresh vegetables!

Bringing the Garden to Life

We took a full service approach, handling the garden planning, plant selection, planting and ongoing garden care throughout the growing season. Using seedlings grown at The Sprout House, we filled her existing garden with a variety of vegetables selected for our Maine climate and her growing space.

Julie took care of the watering and enjoyed the best part: Heading out to her garden to harvest fresh vegetables!

This arrangement allowed her to enjoy the rewards of a productive kitchen garden while leaving the more complicated details to someone who loves figuring them out.

Growing Through the Challenges

Of course, no gardening season comes without a few surprises!

Julie’s garden had some particularly enthusiastic visitors, deer who were just as interested in her vegetables as she was! Throughout the season, we navigated challenges, adjusted our approach and worked to keep her garden healthy and productive.

That’s one of the benefits of having a kitchen garden consultant. Gardens are living, changing spaces and when something unexpected happens, you have someone who knows what to look for and how to respond.

More Than Just a Harvest

By the end of the season, Julie’s once overwhelming garden had become a thriving, productive space overflowing with tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, herbs and companion flowers.

What began as an unfamiliar responsibility that came with her new home became something she could enjoy.

We’re already planning and looking forward to another growing season with Julie in 2027!
